Betty Yau

Principal, Fairchild Kindergarten

Betty Yau is originally from Scotland but has lived in Hong Kong for the past 16 years. Her first role was as a local government officer, supporting local committee administration. Ms Yau has worked in the education field in Hong Kong since 2003, gaining experience in various language centres and several international kindergartens. She has supported the establishment and opening of three brand new schools and one language centre, including Fairchild Kindergarten which opened in January 2017.

Her daughter, now a teenager, was the inspiration behind Ms Yau’s further study in Early Childhood Education. She studied part-time to become a qualified principal and teacher in Hong Kong at the Baptist University, and graduated with the highest GPA in her cohort. Ms Yau is also a registered child care supervisor, and is currently studying for a Masters degree in Educational Administration and Management at the University of Hong Kong.

Her values and methods focus on the quality of play experiences that contribute to a child’s learning – she believes classes should be fun and engaging to allow a creative, imaginative and happy development.
