Deirdre McCloskey is originally from Ireland and has lived in Hong Kong for the past 18 years. She has worked in education for 20 years, supporting the establishment and opening of schools and learning centres in China, Thailand, Malaysia, and Hong Kong, including Mills International Preschool in 2013.
Deirdre earned a Masters degree from Glasgow School of Art, and a Bachelors from Central St Martin’s College, London, UK. She also holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from the University of Strathclyde, UK. She has over 22 years of experience teaching kindergarten, primary, and secondary school children in the UK and Hong Kong.
Deirdre has held diverse roles in leadership and management within the field of education, including tutor in applied arts, head of visual arts, director of teaching and curriculum development, director of knowledge management, and school director. In addition to her teaching and leadership roles, she has also been guest speaker for the Department of Early Childhood Education at The Education University of Hong Kong, and has delivered parenting workshops in Hong Kong.
She is passionate about ensuring the success of every child in her care, and is an advocate of supporting students’ resilience, motivation, and academic performance through the MindUP™ programme which focuses on children’s emotional well-being.
